Can I Work in U.S. with F-1 Visa to Support Myself Financially?

Hi William:

As a F1 student, in what situation I can work in U.S. to support myself financially? Thank you.

Answer:

The F-1 students can work in U.S. in the following situations:

1) Students may work on campus as long as they are enrolled in school.

2) Students may apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) to gain work experience in their field of study while being a full time student.

3) Students may take advantage of Optional Practical Training (OPT) once the degree is completed as a full time employee.

4) Many students obtaining a bachelor or master's degree in the United States go on to be sponsored by their employer for an H-1B Work Visa.
