My self-petitioned NIW based I-140/I-485 concurrent applications have been pending for more than 180 days, and I already have the EAD. Can I start my own company with the EAD card, while the I-485 is still pending?

Answer:

With the EAD, you are allowed to work with any employer, including starting your own company. The basic requirement is that as the principal applicant of the I-140/I-485 NIW application, you must work in the "Same or Similar" field for the AC21 portability purposes, for you to obtain the Green Card approval. 

On the other hand, the principal applicant's dependent can start a company and work for it on the EAD, there are no restrictions for the dependent.
