I Forgot to Submit My I-94 Card While Departing from the U.S.

Hi William:

I really need your help. I forgot to submit my I-94 card while departing from the U.S. in the June of this year. What should I do with this old I-94 card when I enter the U.S. again next month? Thank thank you very much.

Answer:

You need to keep that old I-94 card in a separate place, or keep a copy of it and submit the passport with the I-94 card to the CBP Inspector at the airport upon entry to the U.S. They will likely remove the old I-94 card.

It is important to keep a copy of your airline tickets and boarding cards from your last trip also, as evidence of having departed as required by law during that visit. This will be required in case you apply for any immigration benefits, like an extension of your status or for the Green Card, at any time in the future.
