Answer::

For the NIW petition, the employer's sponsorship is not required. You may be self-petitioned and do not need to be formally sponsored by your employer. But if you are currently employed, the present employment will help your petition. 

If you get your employer's sponsorship, their letters of recommendation may help your case.
